Lorri Craig 2013Here is a little more about my background and the way that I work with clients.  As I mentioned on the home page, I am a Psychologist with over 30 years clinical experience working therapeutically with people of all ages.

I initially studied psychology as an undergraduate at the University of Melbourne in the 1970s, and completed my postgraduate qualifications at Monash University in the early 80s. These are both highly regarded Australian Universities.  I then completed a two year psychology internship, and have done an enormous amount of training and supervised practice since then. I joined the APS in Australia many years ago and was registered there.

I moved to the UK in the early 2000s, and have since become a Registered Psychologist here with the HCPC [PLY31854]. Counselling Psychologist to be exact.

Over the years I have worked as a psychologist, counsellor, mediator and psychological therapist in numerous government settings, including the NHS, the Family Court of Australia, various university and college counselling services, as well as private practices in Australia and the UK.

Like a lot of psychologists I have trained in and use a number of empirically supported therapeutic strategies, depending on the person I am treating and what their issues and treatment goals are. These include Mindfulness, AIT, EFT, ACT, CBT and loads of other therapies with acronyms.

I specialise in quickly and gently treating the effects of traumatic experiences, including early traumas, such as a traumatic birth, attachment disorder, bullying, or childhood abuse, and later traumatic experiences like illness, accidents, separation, and loss. I believe that unresolved traumatic experiences can have a profound effect on our psyches, and are a common reason for mental health problems in children and adults; including anxiety, depression, anger, low self esteem and relationship issues. I have found that clearing the impact of trauma is the most efficient and effective way of freeing people to overcome psychological problems in their current lives.

I strongly believe that a warm, compassionate, trusting therapeutic relationship is a crucial part of anyone’s treatment. A touch of fun and humour is also important.

My own goals are pretty simple. I want to help my clients to feel happier, more confident, and more emotionally resilient, to enjoy better relationships, and get the most out of their lives. In a nutshell, I want my clients to become more psychologically healthy and balanced.

I also connect with and support people through my Psychology website: www.PsychologyThroughTheInternet.comYou might like to check it out to get a better sense of me and how I work with people.
